A year ago, if someone told me one of the biggest symbols of modern Manchester United fandom would be a guy refusing to cut his hair until we won five games in a row, I probably would’ve laughed. BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
Now, The United Strand feels weirdly representative of what supporting this club has become.
Sure, it started as a joke, then a meme, then a countdown, then, an actual marker of where Manchester United are as a football club. The whole world knew where we were at just because of that guy.
Realistically, underneath the jokes and the viral videos, there’s something painfully relatable about it as a United fan. Waiting. Then waiting some more. Maybe convincing yourself it’s going to happen. And weirdly, Carrick’s recent run made it feel possible for the first time. Four wins in a row suddenly had everyone talking about a haircut like it was a trophy final. People will bring hair clippers to Old Trafford.
At the end of the day, nobody actually cares about the haircut. We care about being united.
Peak Manchester United.
