Manchester United’s 2–0 win over Tottenham wasn’t the most emotional result of the season so far, and honestly, that’s probably a good thing. It actually seemed as if it was now EXPECTED of us to win.
More importantly, it was the United’s fourth consecutive Premier League win under Michael Carrick, something that felt very unlikely just a few weeks ago.
Coming into the match, Spurs still posed a real threat despite their inconsistent form. After all, Spurs are known to be a tricky opponent for United, even in a rocky season and at home.
Michael Carrick Ball was completely in action.
The turning point came midway through the first half when Cristian Romero was sent off for the second time this season after a reckless challenge on Casemiro. From that point onward, United controlled the game much more comfortably.
The first goal came before halftime through Bryan Mbeumo after a well-worked corner. It was the kind of goal that reflected Carrick’s start as manager so far: cool, calm, and collected. Bruno Fernandes eventually sealed the win late in the second half with a strike after good work down the right side. The clean sheet for Lammens also meant a lot. Some control.
Earlier in the season, even when United were ahead, matches often felt unstable. The feeling that tables can turn any second now were inevitable.
There’s also more trust in the system. Players seem more certain about their roles, coordinated pressing, no weird gaps in the midfield and defense.
Of course, we still need to win the 5th so that The United Strand can finally get his hair cut.
